Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a dilated area in the lower part of the aorta, which is the largest artery in the body. The wall of the dilated area is weak and prone to rupture, much like a balloon that is blown up beyond its intended size. AAA is particularly dangerous, because most patients have no symptoms until the aneurysm has ruptured or is about to. When the aneurysm ruptures most patients don't get to the hospital in time to stop the internal bleeding that occurs. It is important that all aortic aneurysms be evaluated by a vascular surgeon, since they should be repaired when they reach sufficient size. The exact size at which repair is appropriate varies with the particular aneurysm and the age and medical condition of the patient.

We are exited about the new developments in endovascular repair (stent graft repair) of abdominal aortic aneurysms. We are pleased to be able to offer our patients the latest technology for endovascular stent grafts in addition to an extensive experience with traditional open surgical repair.
